I was contracted by a London brand to help design a night time commuter pack.
They sold reflective gear for the commuting Londoners and wanted to expand their product line into packs.

role
Responsible for concept generation, style direction, spec creation and sourcing.

brief

A versatile compact pack designed for the modern day commuter and traveler. Designed for quick access and to satisfy various organizational needs;  from electronics, accessories, to clothing, the pack combines both functionality and style.

user research

Researched into what commuters  typically carried:
an array of electronics (headphones, smart phone,
laptop, usb drives, cords, etc) utilized daily for life and work.

“There were countless times
I was almost hit by a car
because of the low visibility from the fog.”

A critical feature of the pack required it to have high visibility in fog.  Screen print reflective decal would cost too much and eventually wear off.

Material also had to be sweat and water resistant if not water proof, yet durable and stiff enought to prevent shifting of interior contents. Paper versions were created to refine the distinct canister shape and top opening.

end result

Front face was changed and features were adjusted as needed for functionality.
The initial reflective material appeared dull and grey in the day time. It took a bit of effort to
source a thick reflective water resistant material to work, tarpaulin.
