about
Updated approach and construction for a staple design in product line. Worked to create a sleeping bag that retained superior heat insulation even when washed. Standard sleeping bag construction traditionally relied on a handful of specific materials with limited cleaning possiblites. Worked under outdoor industry veteran Andy Gustafson, sourcing, color, and overseas manufacturing.
role
Aid in exploring material and construction possibilites, spec creation, color ups, sampling and production.

brief
Updated approach and construction for a staple item in product line.
V2
Most sleeping bags are created with cut staple insulation.
Cost efficient, warm, environmentally friendly and an alternative to
down for most companies.
Exploring different materials, in this case, continuous filament, led to a better bag. Continuous filament is extruded fiber, which means there is no adhesive bonding to disintegrate unlike cut staple when washed.

protos
Adjust and change entire construction based on the new continious filament material. Rework panels and seam edges to reduce draft.

A new stuff sack was created for the new dimensions of the sleeping bag.
specs
Cad work created for factory communication, manufacturing and production.
